- ISO 5267-2 (Pulps - Determination of drainability - Part 2: Canadian Standard freeness method)
- BS 6035-2 (Methods for determination of the drainability of pulp. 'Canadian Standard' freeness method)
- AS/NZS 1301.206s (Methods of test for pulp and paper - Part 206s: Freeness of pulp)
- CPPA C1
- SCAN C21
Canadian Standard Freeness Tester – Test Method:
Freeness is a quantitative measure of the Drainage Behavior of a diluted Pulp Suspension containing 3 g of absolutely dry fiber per 1 L of water. It reflects two critical fiber characteristics:
- Surface condition and
- Degree of fiber swelling
Because drainage behavior is sensitive to process variables, freeness results depend strongly on pulp preparation, temperature and water quality.
The Canadian Standard Freeness (CSF) method evaluates the Drainage Performance of a Pulp Suspension at a controlled concentration of 0.3 ± 0.0005% and a test temperature of 20 °C. Under standardized conditions, the CSF value is defined as the volume of filtrate (mL) discharged through the side orifice of this professional Canadian Standard Freeness Tester.
This Precision Canadian Standard Freeness Tester is engineered for repeatable, high‑accuracy drainage measurements and consists of:
Drainage Chamber
Manufactured from high‑grade stainless steel for dimensional stability and corrosion resistance.
The base of the Main Cylinder incorporates a precision‑machined stainless steel Sieve.
An airtight bottom Sealing Cover, mounted on a hinge and secured with a sealing bracket, ensures consistent test conditions.
A sealed stainless steel Top Sealing Cover maintains controlled internal geometry during sample loading.
Drainage Funnel Assembly
A precision‑machined Conical Funnel directs filtrate flow with minimal turbulence.
Both the Main Cylinder and precision engineered Funnel are supported by rigid stainless steel Brackets designed to eliminate vibration and mechanical drift.
Operational Features
After the Pulp Suspension is introduced, the operator opens the Bottom Sealing Cover and Air Valve, initiating controlled drainage.
Optional Dual Level Bubbles—one on the Funnel Lid and one on the Lower Support—ensure this professional Canadian Standard Freeness Tester is perfectly leveled prior to testing, a critical factor for measurement repeatability.
All structural components are fabricated from high‑quality stainless steel, providing ergonomic design, long‑term stability, mechanical robustness and reliable performance in laboratory and industrial environments.
