Le Brinell Hardness Test Method characterizes the hardness of samples with the Brinell Hardness Scale by surface indentation. To perform a Brinell Hardness Test a sample is mounted on the sample holder and a Steel Indenter with a ball shaped tip with a diameter of 10 mm penetrates the sample surface with a Test Load of 3000 kgf. The indentation depth is measured to calculate the Brinell Hardness.
