The sample inside the Sample Cup is heated gradually and simultaneously an Ignition Source continuously emits sparks above the surface of the liquid sample trying to ignite the sample inside the Sample Cup. After the sample inside the Sample Cup reaches a certain temperature the sparks of the Ignition Source ignite the sample. This temperature is the Open Cup Flash Point.
