O Salt Spray Test is an accelerated Corrosion Test to determine the resistance of a wide range of materials, surface coatings and protective films against climatic influences causing corrosion. Samples include Ceramic Materials, Minerals, Stones, Tiles, Polymers with and without a protective surface coating. During the Salt Spray Test the samples are placed into the sample area of the Cyclic Salt Spray Chamber and exposed to a specified Salt Spray with a specified Temperature and a specified Salt Concentration for a specified Time to comparatively evaluate the Corrosion Resistance of the sample materials. Usually, the Salt Solution has a concentration of 5% NaCl, but the Salt Concentration may vary depending on the tested samples. The Salt Spray Test is primarily an integrated part of Quality Management to compare the Corrosion Resistance of finished products with prototypes during production to ensure the finished product meets the specified Corrosion Resistance.
