This professional Minimum Film Forming Temperature Tester is designed and engineered in accordance with international test standards including:

The Minimum Film Forming Temperature is the lowest temperature at which paint, coatings, synthetic latex, emulsions, polymers and adhesives will uniformly coalesce when applied on a substrate as a thin film layer. Temperatures below the Minimum Film Forming Temperature will form for example a powdered or cracked film.

The Minimum Film Forming Temperature Test consists of drawing down sample stripes onto the Minimum Film Forming Temperature Bar by using a supplied 75 μm x 1 inch cube applicator. After equilibrium the exact film forming temperature can be identified with a moving cursor.

This precision Minimum Film Forming Temperature Bar is designed using the newest microchip technology to electronically control heating, cooling and the overall process to determine the Minimum Film Forming Temperature. A precision temperature gradient platen protected by a transparent acrylic cover – easy to open and close – is electronically cooled towards one end and electronically heated towards the other end to produce and to maintain a constant temperature gradient for any required test period to best suit your test requirements.
To ensure temperature uniformity of the surrounding air and to prevent condensation dry air flows over the surface of the temperature gradient platen and the specimen. The temperature gradient platen can be adjusted to any variable temperature gradient within the given range and the temperature gradient can be produced and kept constant for any required test period.
Temperature sensors mounted at intervals combined with the newest microchip technology manage and indicate the programmed temperature gradient. Additional movable point to test sensors help to check spot temperatures for advanced testing.

This professional Minimum Film Forming Temperature Bar – MFFT Bar – can also be used to determine the transition temperature of liquid – glass, dispersion materials, enamels, synthetic resins and the stacking capability and the blocking power of specimen, e.g. coated papers, prints and foils.

Paints and Coatings:

The Minimum Film Forming Temperature – MFFT – of a paint or coating is the lowest temperature at which it will uniformly coalesce when laid on a substrate as a thin film layer. The standard test to determine this Minimum Film Forming Temperature involves using a Minimum Film Forming Temperature Bar – MFFT Bar – as specified by international testing standards.

Adhesives:

The Minimum Film Forming Temperature – MFFT – of one-pack adhesives can be found in a similar way as of paints and coatings. With two-pack adhesives a strip of aluminium foil can be placed on the platen to ease cleaning before applying the adhesive. Two-pack adhesives do not show a Minimum Film Forming Temperature – MFFT – but the Minimum Cure Temperature can be determined by scraping the sample with a spatula.
